The Sahara covers over 3.5 million square miles in North Africa, making it the largest hot desert on Earth (only the cold deserts of the Arctic & Antarctic are larger). The word “Sahara” comes from the Arabic word meaning “desert”, so saying “Sahara Desert” is actually a bit redundant. This vast area, despite the hot climate, is home to a wide range of unique & interesting animals.
